Scripture Lesson: 2 Corinthians 9:6-15

Return to Sender

Giving Back – First & Best

Week #2

  1. Firstfruits are about trust, not leftovers.

Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine. – Proverbs 3:9-10

  1. God loves cheerful givers.

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work. – 2 Corinthians 9:7-8

  1. Our giving reflects where our heart is.

This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of the Lord’s people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God. – 2 Corinthians 9:12

It shows that heart in giving should first foremost give thanks to God.

Points to Ponder

  1. Am I giving God my firstfruits or my leftovers?

  1. How does honoring God with the first portion of my wealth—rather than what’s left over—demonstrate trust in Him?

  1. What does my giving say about my priorities and how I view God’s provision in my life?

  1. Do I give cheerfully or reluctantly?

  1. How do I approach giving—out of obligation or with a joyful heart?

  1. Am I willing to trust God with my finances, knowing He blesses a cheerful giver and will provide for every need?

  1. What does my giving say about the state of my heart?

  1. How does my generosity reflect my gratitude and devotion to God?

  1. In what ways can I ensure that my giving is motivated by a heart of thanksgiving and love for God, rather than simply fulfilling a duty?
